FASHION: Baltimore’s Stevie Boi’s "Malibu Stevie" awes with his BEST so far…

8 Jun

It doesn’t feel like it was JUST a year ago when Baltimore’s Steven Strawder stormed onto the national fashion stage with his fabricated sunglasses line. Dark, stark and foreboding, the collections reflected his time as a military brat and a familiar interest in the dark side of fashion with a detour by the legacy of Grace Jones for good measure.

One year later and we’re here. Stevie Boi is an international name on the rise. Splitting time between Bmore, NYC and now Atlanta, the designer has set forth on his most audacious fashion junket ever, transforming not just his line, but himself, into something beautiful, opulent and iconic, truly setting forth a most intriguing time for himself as a designer, visionary and model.

In the video above, do note the names now sporting the line. That merely scratches the surface of top performers and star musicians in the frames. Stevie Boi will be a name with fame in the industry. FASHION: Baltimore’s Stevie Boi Returns with new "Fallen Angel" Eyeware Line

27 Jan

We here at TGRIOnline are really feeling what Baltimore fashion and eyewear designer Stevie Boi is up to these days. Starting with last year’s very exciting and stunning glitter fabricated frames, the designer has expanded and deviated from all norms and expectations in his fashion eyewear line with grand results. The list of fashionistas and music superstars now wearing his frames on stage, screen and red carpet grows by the day with expectaions of names of even greater importance and renown growing seemingly every day.

His newest line, the “Fallen Angel” collection expands from his “military industrial” complex in designing to something a bit more avant garde, still with the flair of classic European designs he tends to stay very motivated by.

The line will be released on February 6th, which coincides with the designer being at NYC’s Fashion Week on February 13th with a show at Bryant Park with Nigerian haute couture dressmaker Deola Sagoe.

THE STEVIE BOI Interview…A sit down with Bmore’s leading fashion designer!

10 Nov

Baltimore is always a fantastic source of artistic inspiration. Somewhere in the city’s blue collar history and heavy DIY ethos lies hearts that yearn with creativity and inspiration. Steven “Stevie Boi” Strawder may not be a Baltimore native (he’s an army brat who has seen half of Europe and most of the globe in over ten moves throughout his unique childhood), but the rapidly rising fashion designer of fabricated sunglasses and exciting fashions features a cutting edge, militaristic with industrial glamour style that brings attention and iconic notoriety to the wearer. Having been in the game since 2007, the 20 year old prodigy is easily in this reviewer’s estimation the most inventive young mind in ALL of fashion in my limited fashion universe. What separates him from most is his unerring vision and belief in his own conceptualizations, creating something that is obviously form over function and vastly entertaining.

Stevie does have a music background as well, and wit
h his fashions being sported by the likes of Lil Kim, Young B of “Chicken Noodle Soup” fame with DJ Webstar, and Bmore’s riotouslly fun party starters TT the Artist and the Get Em Mamis, he clearly sees music as an inspiration and motivating force behind his line.

I had the opportunity to sit with Stevie, and with Young B recently, and discussed fashion, influences, Grace Jones, New York Fashion Week, future plans, musical aspirations and a plethora of other topics. Please note the photos in this column are of his Winter 2010 fabricated shades line dropping November 15th.
