DJ COLD CASE PRESENTS…."GO DJ…THAT’S MY DJ," a rundown of only the most killing sounds of EDM

18 Dec

Though the weather outside is frightful these bangers will provide more than enough fire on the dance floor to keep you dancing through these icy nights. I’m going in.

Live and direct from Brazil comes Kamei, a 15 year old wunderkind serving up filtered french disco that rivals some of Duck Sauce’s work. The self described “Sound of Brazil Tomorrow” on his myspace page came to my attention via his reworking of Earth Wind & Fire’s “Let’s Groove”, a true gem aptly named “Hot”. I’ve since become a big fan of the kid and can’t wait to see what’s next from him. Keep ya nose clean youngin.

Here’s a few of his tracks, give ’em a listen and you’ll see what I mean.

Back again with a roundup of this weeks latest and greatest remixes.

Norwegian duo Lindstrøm & Christabelle aka Soloale return with “Baby Can’t Stop” the first single off their upcoming album ‘Real Life is No Cool’. It’s a veritable gem. The Aeroplane duo remixed the track, cleaning up the unpolished funk of the original and creating a modern dance track that should help build anticipation for Lindstrøm & Christabelle’s January release.

Montreal’s modern maestro has kept a tight lid on his reworking of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ ‘Heads Will Roll’. Until this Tuesday when he announced it was available for download on iTunes. Applause could be heard across the dance music blogosphere.

When I first heard Mike Posner i relegated him to the sub Robin Thicke realm of R&B. Not having a vocal range or lyrical ability necessary to keep my attention he quickly faded into the trivial pursuit answer section of my musical memory. Insert Chicago bred electro rock trio Hey Champ to rework the banal vocals into two-step magic.

The Temper Trap – Science of Fear (Herve´Dub Remix)

http://www.youtube.com/v/mA_9PJjP6J0&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0xe1600f&color2=0xfebd01

The Temper Trap may be your next favorite Australian band, after Wolfmother and Cut Copy so keep an ear out for them. Although this is currently one of my favorite songs to i’ve only played it for four people hanging out in my living room. Only to see them dancing/doing that dub head bop that accompanies the sickest baselines. Though I’m sure you’ll be hearing Herve´’s ‘Cheap Thrills’ this halloween (especially if you’re at my house that night) but this is a lesser known remix that bangs. Listen.

Kidda – Under the Sun (Herve´Dub Remix)

http://www.youtube.com/v/K0ohhtYfNVg&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0xe1600f&color2=0xfebd01

While we’re talking about Herve´, how can we forget his remix of Kidda’s ‘Under the Sun’.

Fake Blood – ‘Mars’ (Herve´Re-fix)

http://www.youtube.com/v/M4ni0by_3Rs&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0xe1600f&color2=0xfebd01

And how could I forget, Herve´and Fake Blood, two London’s latest and greatest exports combined to make this the masterful remix to Fake Blood’s ‘Mars’.

To quote a good friend of mine: “I love everything Herve´ does”

Hostage – ‘I Get High’

http://www.youtube.com/v/PA6gX9YByqQ&hl=en&fs=1&color1=0xe1600f&color2=0xfebd01

While we’re on the topic of banging dub tunes…Let’s talk about Hostage.

Freda Payne’s ‘I Get High (On Your Memory)’, must be in incredibly easy song to sample. Aside from the the obvious allusions the vocals are flawless. She even chops up the chorus for you! The thirty year old Scotsman’s remix is pure gold with elements of hip-hop, rave, and disco stewed into a complete masher. By using this sample Hostage is performing double duty; he adds a deliciously melodic topping to this track and makes a heavy dub raver sound mainstream thereby attracting a new audience everytime it’s played.

Fashen – Bam Bam

In the rapid fire release atmosphere of electronic dance music this week’s track is a veritable octogenarian (that’s old as hell in EDM years). I don’t remember how I can across this track but after spending hours (that’s a long ass time in internet years) looking for it I finally found it on 2008’s Floor Bangers 16, which makes complete sense at it is a destructive force for any functioning dance floor. DJ Fashen uses Sister Nancy’s classic dub ‘Bam Bam’, with authority and complete disregard for how tired you may be. You will jerk ya body. Also included is a video of Fashen dropping the track at Banana Split to an audience including Stretch Armstrong and the late DJ AM. Notice the before and after. Listen.
