TGRIOnline.com presents…MAKE UPS TO BREAK UPS – Odes To The Bands That Should Have Never Split Up…

2 Feb

“Break up to make up, that’s all we do/Yeah, first you love me then you hate me, that’s a game for fools.” –  The Stylistics, “Break Up to Make Up,” 1973

Nothing lasts forever. However, as is the nature with anything, there are those times, be they romantic or otherwise, when you wish they would. Those pangs of love and desire when a relationship is going well are beautiful, and make the human heart overflow with wondrous emotion. The same can apply to music as well. Music has the innate ability to lift the human spirit, and often when a band we come to love just as we’d love a mate reach that point of no return and break up, we’re left devastated, much in the same way one feels when a relationship ends. Those songs, and those emotions are gone forever, and all that’s left are memories, depression and a wistful hope that one day the group will come to their senses and relent. But it never seems to be that easy. Often there are reformations, but even then, the dynamic just isn’t the same.

For the month of February, typically a month of love, we’re going to examine those bands that brought us love, then delivered heratbreak. The “Make Ups to Break Ups” collection will examine all of our favorite groups, why they were loved, and ultimately, how their love went awry. Do enjoy, and share a wistful moment, and hopefully learn to, if you have someone in your life, to savor the one you love right now, and bask in the precious moments you share together.
