THE DARUDE INTERVIEW

30 Nov

The Finnish trance master famous for 1999’s gigantic and iconic international hit “Sandstorm” visited DC on Saturday night and played a fantastic two hour set at Ibiza. Yes, he played his #1 single (a VERY hard trance remix of it), but alongside that, he played a very populist, electro trending set of his own hits, including his take on Flock of Seagulls’ “I Ran” with American Idol finalist Blake Lewis, along with tracks by Paul van Dyk and numerous other contemporary, popular, top trance performers.

However, prior to his set, I had the opportunity to sit with Darude for about 35 minutes and get his thoughts on his career, his hit singles, populist leaning tendencies, international touring (including a humorous tale about playing in Mauritius), as well as his love of ice hockey. It was a fascinating look with depth into a trance pioneer. Do enjoy!
